Autopsy documentation in some cases revealed emphysema, diagnosed and manifested as a result of alveolar destruction.

According to Gazeta Polska Codziennie autopsy documents of the victims in some cases revealed emphysema, whose symptoms are diagnosed and manifested as a result of alveolar destruction.

Emphysema is called an obstructive lung disease because the destruction of lung tissue around smaller sacs, called alveoli, makes these air sacs unable to hold their functional shape upon exhalation. Emphysema is most often caused by tobacco smoking and long-term exposure to air pollution.

This concerned victims who had not suffered from emphysema during their lifetime, and in two cases concerned victims who due to the nature of their work regularly underwent detailed medical examinations.

The medical documentation contains a description of a short-term but very strong heat/fire activity, which could be due to a thermal heat wave in action.

Information contained in the autopsy reports was the reason behind a trip of experts and prosecutors to Smolensk at the turn of September and October 2012 in order to examine, among other things, the Tu-154M wreckage. It has turned out that specialist devices detected TNT (i.e. explosives) on some of the examined fragments.

Gazeta Polska Codziennie reports that, within the next few weeks the military prosecutor's office will take a decision concerning a possible further exhumation of 3 victims (bringing the total count to 12 so far). In December 2012, the Military Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw received an exhumation motion from one of the family members (who wish to remain anonymous) due to inconsistencies contained in the autopsy reports received from Russia. Families of victims, since autopsy files have been made available to them, have openly questioned the accuracy of the autopsy files, due to overwhelming amount of inconsistencies suggesting falsification or pure fabrication. Many relatives of the Smolensk victims have openly accused the autopsy files to have been falsified.

A fact to remember and keep in mind is that the coffins of the victims have been sealed in Russia and never opened, once in Poland.

According to the official data of the Military Prosecutor's Office, the Russians authorities have not yet transmitted the full report of proceedings, actions and activities carried out on the territory of the Russian Federation, concerning "the examination, inspection, identification and autopsies of the bodies, together with a copy of photographic documentation of the victims of the Tu-154M plane."

Experts appointed by the military investigators are currently working on reports concerning the circumstances and causes of death of 6 crash victims, exhumed from September to November 2012. In line with an official announcement, the prosecutor's office should receive the expert opinions within the next few months.

The prosecutor's office has not given consent to Prof. Michael Baden, a world-known anatomic pathologist, to participate in the exhumations and expertises.

Michael Baden: Injuriestypical of an explosion

If lungs are damaged from the inside that means there could have been an explosion on board the plane’ according to Professor Michael Baden.

Medical documentations have revealed a shocking state of the victims’ remains, pointing in some cases to emphysema suffered by the victims and manifested by damaged pulmonary alveolar.

Diagnosing emphysema is extraordinary for it can very rarely be found amongst plane crash victims’ – admits worldwide recognized pathologist Professor Michael Baden. What is even more important is that this concerned the victims who had never been diagnosed with such disease previously. He explains that ‘during an explosion, high pressured air is being pumped into human lungs leading to sudden emphysema by damaging the air sacs and the pulmonary alveoluses. You cannot explain it any other way’.
